Precipitation gauge time series used in evaluating post-processing filters (code included)

This dataset and code package is a supplement to Ross et al. (2020). The data used in the evaluation of precipitation gauge time series post-processing techniques is included and is described in full by Ross et al. (2020). These data are comma delimited files divided into two main directories. The “Synthetic” directory contains data that were pre-processed for use as a control with noise re-introduced for testing purposes. The “Real” directory contains data that were collected at seven international intercomparison sites used during WMO-SPICE (Nitu et al, 2018) and are used for testing the post-processing filters on actual data that contain contrasting noise characteristics. Both main directories include sub-directories for "Winter" and "Summer" data. All time stamps (column 1 in these data) are in UTC and formatted to ISO 8601 standards. All precipitation and evaporation data are in units of mm. The post-processing filters that were tested are the Neutral Aggregating Filter (NAF), the Supervised Neutral Aggregating Filter (NAF-S), the Segmented Neutral Aggregating Filter (NAF-SEG), and the Operational 15-minute filter (O15). The MATLAB code for NAF, NAF-S, and NAF-SEG, along with required dependent functions are included in the directory “Code”. NAF and NAF-S are in the sub-directory “MATLAB_NAF_Code” and NAF-SEG is in the sub-directory “MATLAB_NAF_SEG_Code”.
