Digital soil map of the Flemish Region: soil types

https://www.dov.vlaanderen.be/page/bodemkaarten digital vector dataset of Belgium’s analogue soil map for the territory of Flanders. All map elements of analogue cards (published on map scale 1: (20 000) have been carefully manually digitised and coded in accordance with the classification system used: morphogenesis for inner Flanders (substrate, texture class, drainage class, profile development group, phase and variant) and geomorphological for the coastal area (substrate, series, subseries, type, subtype and variant). The digital version of the soil map was almost systematically checked against the analogue soil maps. The polygons were coloured as on the analogue soil map. Where available, the general characteristics (Van Ranst E. and Sys C., 2000) and photographs of a representative soil profile and environments are displayed for each soil type. Finally, it is possible for each polygon to call the scan of the analogue soil map sheet, the explanatory booklet and the base cards on a scale of 1: 5000. For visualisation purposes, this dataset is divided into 5 map layers when published in the Soil Outlook: soil types, substrates, phases, parent material variants and profile development. The map layer containing the soil types also contains the attributes of the other map layers. The soil map was updated in June 2017 with some military domains and a unisoil type for the classification of sea polders and several mistakes were improved.
