Participants: Data were collected from 19 to 26 March 2022. 1530 participants (636 men) from different colleges in the southern area of China were chosen using the convenience sampling method. 

Measures

Subjective socioeconomic status (subjective SES). The subjective SES scale containing 1 item (Adler, Epel, Castellazzo, & Ickovics, 2000) was chosen to assess the level of subjective SES in this study.

Life satisfaction. The Chinese version of the Satisfaction With Life Scale (Cai, Lin, Wu, Yan, & Huang, 2008) containing 5 items, translated from the Satisfaction With Life Scale (Pavot & Diener, 1993), was chosen to assess the level of life satisfaction in this study. 

Objective socioeconomic status (objective SES). The objective SES scale (Lu, 2002) containing 2 items was chosen to assess the level of objective SES in this study. 

Sense of control. The Chinese version of the Sense of Control Scale (Li, 2012) containing 12 items, translated from the Sense of Control Scale (Lachman & Weaver, 1998), was chosen to assess the level of sense of control in this study.

Meaning in life. The Chinese version of the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (Liu & Gan, 2014) containing 9 items, translated from the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (Michael & Steger, 2002), was chosen to assess the level of meaning in life.
