Illumina sequencing of a formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded autopsy lung sample from a fatal pneumonia case in 1912

In this study, we conducted Illumina sequencing on a formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) autopsy lung sample from a one-and-a-half-year-old girl who was admitted to the Royal London Hospital on February 1, 1912 and died on the same day due to acute pneumonia and heart failure. Analysis of the sequencing data, along with metagenomic analysis, revealed a co-infection involving Rickettsia felis (R. felis) and Mucor in the FFPE autopsy lung sample of this fatal case.
