Coastal and Transitional Waters (WRRL) Lower Saxony

The smallest demarcated hydrological level of the EC Water Framework Directive (WRRL) is the water body (WK).Coastal water bodies have been designated for the assessments according to WFD from the coastline to the 1 SM line and beyond for the chemical evaluation up to the territorial limit.Transitional waters according to WFD are the surface water bodies near river estuaries, which have a certain salt content due to their proximity to coastal waters, but are mainly influenced by freshwater flows.In addition to the Lower Saxony waters, also the other other water bodies affected by Lower Saxony are also the water bodies touched by Lower Saxony. The water body characterisation and evaluation is integrated with results of the assessment of the overall ecological state/potential and the chemical state for the creation of theme maps as an attribute.
