The study provides information on DNA methylation signature of merkel cell carcinoma (MCC). MCC is a rare but aggressive neuro-endocrine carcinoma of the skin with a low survivability rate. The role of epigenome in this disease has been overlooked. DNA methylation study in existing retrospective cohort of clinically annotated merkel cell carcinoma samples was performed using Illumina Infinium MethylationEPIC array. This analysis revealed potential epigenetic markers and functional markers to identify MCC and MCPyV infection.
