This series contains ongoing details and summaries of leases under Section 21 Land Act 1874. Each county where pastoral lands were available is listed with the accreage available for lease and the amount of rent chargeable per acre. Other details given are the names of lessees and the details of terms of the lease and any advertisements in the Government Gazette. Details of any transfers or revocations of leases are also given. Returns received are listed at the front of the volume.Part II of the Land Act 1884 allowed for the leasing of pastoral lands for periods of up to 14 years. The size of the pastoral allotment was to be determined by specified carrying capacities for sheep and cattle. The right to lease was to be initially determined by auction with the right of readjustment of boundaries and a new auction if there were no bidders. Rents were to be determined by the number of animals grazed. At the conclusion of the lease the land was to revert to the Crown with the lessee being able to be compensated for improvements by the Crown or by the subsequent lessee.
