Number of votes for Rassemblement National in French presidential election 1995-2022

The former Front National had its first success in the 1988 presidential elections. Then chaired by Jean-Marie Le Pen, the far-right party obtained about 4.4 million votes in this election, which was won by the Parti Socialiste and François Mitterrand, and 4.5 million in the following elections. Since then, the Lepenist party has seen its number of votes increase with each new presidential election, except for the 2007 election, where it won less than 3.8 million votes. In 2002, Jean-Marie Le Pen reached the second round for the first time against Jacques Chirac. The party, now chaired by Marine Le Pen, reached the second round a second time in 2017, when it recorded a record number of votes - more than ten million - and a third time in the elections of 2022.
