Lianshi Jianpi Dietary Formula reverses impaired glucose tolerance through modulation of intestinal microbiota

Diabetes has become a global public health problem. Impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) is an intermediate stage in the transition from normal to pathological glucose metabolism, which mainly manifests as the deregulation of postprandial glucose. Lianshi Jianpi Dietary Formula (LJDF) is effective in the treatment of IGT. However, the mechanism by which LJDF reverses IGT needs to be further investigated. We recruited IGT patients with transportation failure due to spleen deficiency and diabetic patients. The intestinal microbiota of IGT patients treated with LJDF were collected. Alterations in intestinal microbiota were assessed using 16S rRNA sequencing. Our data indicate that LJDF significantly affects the composition of intestinal microbiota, increasing the relative abundance of Clostridium, Actinomyces, and Actinomycetaceae.
