Phytoplankton, crucial for eutrophication assessments, are sensitive to environmental changes. We introduce new metabarcoding primers for cyanobacteria and dinoflagellates, improving taxon detection compared to existing primers. Our study highlights the importance of understanding the dynamics of marine paleoenvironmental producers.The samples were collected from the Eastern Gotland Basin in the Baltic Sea during expedition EMB262. The sediment core (EMB262_6_30_GC) was located at coordinates 57?17.022'N and 20?07.285'E.
