Raw pyrotag sequence results of bacterial and archaeal communities from soil, sediment and biomat samples from geothermal areas in Canada and New Zealand covering a temperature range of 7.5 to 99°C and a pH range of 1.8 to 9.0 and additional acidic bogs/fens. The present studies were aimed at studying the effect of temperature and pH on the diversity of Bacteria and Archaea in the environment, as well as the distribution, diversity and physiology of methanotrophs in geothermal and acidic environments.
