"Rotting" Arctic sea ice: extreme melt series (raw sequence reads). Rotten Arctic Sea Ice

Arctic summer melt seasons are lengthening with climate change. With this may come an increase in the prevalence of fragile, porous "rotten ice". Rotten ice differs markedly from earlier-season ice in terms of its physical and chemical properties, and represents a very different habitat for microbial life. The Arctic rotten ice dataset was generated in order to characterize how shifts in ice character correspond to shifts in microbial community composition. Samples were collected in May, June, and July 2015 from first-year sea ice collected off the coast of Utqiaġvik, Alaska, USA. DNA and RNA were extracted from liquid (seawater and porewater) and melt (ice) samples.
