Open Access Publications Tend to Show Citation and Altmetrics Advantages in the Years Following Publication: A Longitudinal Study (2012-23)

A multi-year analysis of 40M articles reveals that OA publications show consistently higher citation and altmetric rates (Twitter, News, Blog, Wikipedia, Patent and Policy citations) than non-OA research. The advantages, however, are not universal for all fields, and the advantages vary by age of paper and year of publication.
