The marine Alphaproteobacterium strain I8.24 was isolated from the surface of the brown macroalga Sargassum muticum grown in Galicia, Spain, and belongs to the ubiquitous, diverse and ecological relevant Roseobacter clade within the Rhodobacteraceae. Strain I8.24 shows chemotaxis to ecologically relevant secondary metabolites and produces acyl-homoserine lactones.
