Period-specific information Scope of regional gross domestic product This year’s release delivers an extra year of balanced data up to 2016. Regional GDP estimates produced for 2000–16 are from National accounts (industry production and investment): Year ended March 2016. We balanced data for this period using a national accounting supply-use framework, where industry unit data is available for industries using the bottom-up methodology. Further industry breakdowns for this period may be available on request. Provisional estimates 2017 For 2017 provisional estimates, final unit data was unavailable. We used available data sources with a regional dimension (such as Linked Employer-Employee Data (LEED)) to derive provisional regional GDP estimates for 2017. Because of the lower quality of the data sources used, we have only provided provisional estimates for the region totals. The national GDP totals are sourced from National accounts (industry production and investment): Year ended March 2016. Industry breakdown We have provided finer-level industry breakdowns across all our regions for accommodation and food services in this release: accommodation services food and beverage services. This is to provide more detailed information to our customers and to increase consistency with our Tourism Satellite Account. Revisions Industry totals We have incorporated revisions to national industry totals. These revisions affect the national totals that are allocated to regions. See Preview of 2017 national accounts improvements for more information. We have updated the 2015 year regional allocation proportions with new input data, which includes updated Annual Enterprise Survey data and LEED. This update affects the proportional allocation to regions, which results in revisions to all regions for 2015. en-NZ
