Despite the economic importance of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) in Sudan, the sorghum productivity is low. Manipulation of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) may be of potential to mitigate these biotic and abiotic stresses because AMF enhance the sorghum growth, survival, nutrient uptake under drought. However, information on the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal community, further more the genotype specificity is unknown. We here investigated the AMF community structure of 19 sorghum genotypes by next generation sequencing in a semi-arid region in Sudan.
