VPRS 11425 Agenda, Minutes and Board Papers

This series comprises the agendas, minutes and numbered Board papers of the Victorian Post-Secondary Education Commission Accreditation Board, often simply referred to as the Accreditation Board.The Accreditation Board was established as a Board of the Victorian Post-Secondary Education Commission in December 1980. It was responsible for the accreditation of courses offered at Colleges of Advanced Education and Institutes of Technology (i.e., degrees, graduate diplomas).VPSEC referred a course to the Accreditation Board after giving approval to an institution to conduct the course, subject to it being accredited. Under the Post-Secondary Education Act 1978 the referral of a course for accreditation, after granting approval, was optional for VPSEC although in practice it always occurred. In the advanced education sector each course was identified with a particular institution which had rights over that course and the award gained by students. The Accreditation Board was concerned with the quality and standard of courses.The Accreditation Board was replaced by the Victorian Post-Secondary Education Accreditation Board which was established in July 1987 by an amendment to the Post-Secondary Education Act.The series includes minutes of the Executive Committee of the Accreditation Board.
