Dataset of YouTube comments reporting the self-management of choking incidents

This dataset contains results of the analysis of 206 English-language comments reporting users’ real-life experiences of applying self-helping manoeuvres in cases of severe foreign body airway obstruction. The analysed comments were manually retrieved from the primary sample of 13,885 comments posted to YouTube videos containing instructions on how to self-manage foreign body airway obstruction, which had at least 100,000 views as of July 2024 (search query: choking alone; search location: the United Kingdom).
