This study aims to characterize microbial community composition and functional potential during early soil development in the forefield of Tianshan glaciers using paired amplicon and metagenomic sequencing. By profiling taxonomic succession (from 16S/ITS and related marker-gene amplicons) alongside metabolic pathways and gene inventories inferred from shotgun metagenomes, we seek to identify how pioneer microorganisms contribute to primary succession, organic matter accumulation, and key biogeochemical processes (e.g., carbon and nitrogen cycling) as newly exposed substrates transition into developing soils. The resulting dataset provides a baseline for understanding ecosystem establishment in glacier-retreat landscapes and offers timely insight into how cryosphere change may reshape microbial-mediated soil formation and nutrient dynamics in high-mountain environments.
