NRS-17430 | Cash books [Sydney Railway Company]

This series consists of two volumes, Cash Book A and Cash Book B. The first thirty nine pages of Cash Book B contain the cash accounts of the Sydney Railway Company, and the remainder of the volume documents the accounts of the Commissioner for Railways. Each volume is divided into sections, with the category of expenditure detailed at the top of each page. The following information is recorded for each category: date, particulars of expenditure, amount, and totals. These volumes record both cash and contra expenditure.This series was originally part of State Rail Archives Series R448. R448 included a number of record series and these have been separated as follows: NRS 17427 Journal Ledgers- Cash Accounts 1858-1873 NRS 17428 Journal Ledgers- Wages, Expense Reimbursements and Allowances 1879-1882 NRS 17429 Journal Ledger- Capital Accounts 1858-1861 NRS 17431 Cash books [Commissioners for Railways] 1857-1877 NRS 17432 Australian Joint Stock Bank Ledger 1853-1857 NRS 17433 Expenditure Ledger [Commissioner for Railways] 1858-1861Custody History From 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an ‘in house archives’ consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000. When the decision was made to close the ‘State Rail Archives’ the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R448 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
