Gut microbiome of rainbow trout fed sythetic, bacterial and microalgal astaxanthin

In this study, a three-month feeding trial was conducted using rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss; initial body weight of 323.1g) at 8.7C fed one of four astaxanthin-supplemented diets: synthetic powder (SAX), bacterial powder (Paracoccus carotinifaciens; BAX), microalgal powder (MAP), or microalgal oil (Haematococcus pluvialis; MAO) and compared to a control diet with no additive (CON). Bodyweights, whole body carcasses and blood were collected at the end of the trial.
