Serum amyloid A in adult acute appendicitis: SPSS syntax and statistical output

IBM SPSS Statistics 26 syntax and output files of a prospective case-control study of serum amyloid A (SAA) in adults with acute appendicitis (n = 32) and adults with nonspecific abdominal pain (n = 32), carried out in the emergency department of Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Health Practice and Research Hospital, Türkiye. SAA was measured by sandwich ELISA (Wuhan Fine Biotech, catalogue no. EH0336) in serum diluted 1:2. Complete blood counts and C-reactive protein (CRP) were available for all participants. Syntax files 00 to 10 build the analysis file and run the group comparisons of age, sex, blood count indices and CRP, the comparison of SAA between groups (Shapiro-Wilk, Levene, Mann-Whitney U and Hodges-Lehmann estimate), ROC analysis with the Youden index, diagnostic accuracy with exact 95% confidence intervals and likelihood ratios, logistic regression with and without adjustment for age and sex and with SAA added to CRP or to white blood cell count (WBC), Spearman correlations with Benjamini-Hochberg q values, multiple linear regression of SAA on CRP and WBC, the sensitivity analyses, and the comparison of the area under the ROC curve of SAA with those of CRP, WBC, neutrophil count, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (DeLong method). Each syntax file has a matching SPSS output file (.spv). The codebook lists the variables, labels, value labels and measurement levels of the analysis file, and README.txt describes every file in the archive. The individual participant data are not included in this record. They are available from the corresponding author on reasonable request, subject to approval by the Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University Medical Research Ethics Committee.
