Psyllids (Hemiptera) are small sap-feeding insects, related to aphids. Similar to aphids, they also harbor an obligate bacterial endosymbiont Carsonella ruddii. Different from aphids, which alternate between all-female asexual generations and a single sexual generation, psyllids exhibit normal obligate sexual reproduction. We built the chromosome-level genome assembly of psyllids to understand the gene content and sequence evolution of chromosomes between hemipterans with different life cycles.
