The neutral pentacoordinate nitratosilicon(IV) complex 7 was synthesized by treatment of the corresponding chlorosilicon(IV) complex 8 with Me3SiONO2 (Cl/ONO2 exchange). Compound 7 is the first higher-coordinate silicon compound with an Si−ONO2 group that could be structurally characterized both in solution (1H, 13C, and 29Si NMR) and in the solid state (VACP/MAS 13C and 29Si NMR, crystal structure analysis of 7·CH2Cl2).
