Disposal of Unused and Expired Medicines in Ga South Municipality, Ghana

This dataset presents a cross-sectional study on the disposal practices of unused or expired medications among residents in Ga Central Municipality, Ghana, which serves as a Take-Back-Unwanted-Medicines (TBUM) location. Data collection occurred from October 2021 to January 2022, involving 426 community members and utilizing pretested structured questionnaires via Kobo Collect. The dataset encompasses 93 variables, including socio-demographic factors, health system factors , and individual-level characteristics such as knowledge, attitude, and awareness.
The main outcome assessed was whether individuals had disposed of expired or unused medications in the previous 12 months, categorized as either having disposed of them or not. A secondary outcome examined the method of disposal, classified as either home-based or organized (such as returning medications to designated collection points at pharmacies). Additional variables were created to measure knowledge levels, attitudes, and awareness regarding medication disposal
