Doctoral Research in Assamese Language and Literature A Bibliometric Analysis of Theses Uploaded in Shodhganga

The present study discusses the bibliometric analysis of 445 Ph.D. theses in the Assamese language and literature awarded from the Universities of Assam and have been uploaded in the Shodhganga, a reservoir of Indian theses. Out of 19 universities in Assam, 12 have signed the memorandum of understanding of the Shodhganga repository, and all universities contributed their theses and dissertations to this project. The factor considered for the study is uploaded year-wise, awarded year-wise, universities-wise, page-wise, and guide-wise contribution of Ph.D. theses in the subject of Assamese. There are 9397 Ph.D. theses uploaded from North East India. It was found that the share of theses in Assamese language is 4. 74%  (445) of the of the total theses awarded from all the universities in the state of Assam.Gauhati University ranked top by contributing ETDs in Shodhganga. This study found that Gauhati University had the highest number in 2017, with 35(8.99%) theses, followed by Dibrugarh University with 17(36.95%) theses in the same year. The highest number of theses uploaded by Gauhati University was 237 (60.92%) in 2016, followed by Dibrugarh University with 24 (52.17%) theses in 2021. It was also observed that Umesh Deka supervised 24 Ph.D. scholars from Gauhati University. The maximum number of theses covered 251-300 pages were produced by Gauhati University. The highest number of citations received per theses at Gauhati University is 52,217 (86.68%) among the four Universities of Assam.
