CanSIPSv2 Seasonal Sea Ice Hindcasts and Forecasts

The Canadian Seasonal to Interannual Prediction System version 2 (CanSIPSv2) became Environment and Climate Change Canadas operational seasonal forecasting system in late July 2019. CanSIPSv2 forecasts Arctic sea ice much more skillfully than the CanSIPS system that it replaced. This dataset provides daily and monthly values of sea ice concentration from CanSIPSv2 predictions initialized at the start of every month from 1980 until near present. The purposes of such an extensive set of historical forecasts or hindcasts are first to provide a basis for bias correction, skill assessment, and calibration of operational forecasts, and second to serve as an essential resource for research efforts directed at understanding the nature of predictability in the climate system and improving climate prediction methods. This hindcast dataset is intended mainly to serve the latter purpose.
