This dataset describes the growth of the nickel hyperaccumulating plant Odontarrhena chalcidica (synonymous Alyssum murale) on soil from a mining district in Lake County, MN; its use as a biochar feedstock; and its sorption capacities in Ni and mixed metal solutions. Ni sorption isotherms, sorption kinetics plots, and dependence of sorption on system pH were all studied. The mixed metal solutions included a simulated acid mine drainage, aqueous O. chalcidica leachate, and simulated nickel electroplating wastewater solution. These experiments were designed to further understand the abilities of O. chalcidica biochar as a sorbent material. The data from these experiments could inform future experimental directions and designs and be reused by other researchers in future analyses.
