Betacyclocitral (BCC), a short-chain volatile compound, can induce resistance in Arabidopsis thaliana (Arabidopsis) plants against lepidopteran larvae. On the other hand, BCC can prime Solanum Lycopersicum (tomato) plants to withstand drought. Moreover, BCC is known to induce the singlet oxygen responsive genes in Arabidopsis. Together, these facts indicate BCCs role in multiple stress signaling. However, BCCs involvement in the complex stress-signaling network is not known yet. Plants have undergone large-scale transcriptomic changes to cope with abiotic or biotic stress. So, we hypothesized that BCC reprograms plants transcriptomes to develop multiple stress resistance. Therefore, the transcriptomic profiles of BCC-treated plants were compared with that of control plants to reveal BCC-mediated stress-signaling in tomato plants.
