Europe: railway share of total passenger transport by land in 2021, by country

Switzerland was the country with the highest share of total passenger-kilometers travelled by train in Europe in 2021, at 12.5 percent. The country was followed by France and Austria, which recorded a share above nine percent of total passenger-kilometers being travelled by train. In that year, the EU-27 train transport average amounted to six percent of total passenger-kilometers.
