Surgical Capacity in the Central African Republic: A Multi-Regional Assessment of Infrastructure, Workforce, and Service Delivery

The WHO-PGSSC Surgical Assessment Tool captures key data on surgical information systems, infrastructure, workforce, safety and other domains relevant to the development of National Surgical, Obstetric, and Anesthesia Plans (NSOAPs). The instrument was adapted to the context in Central African Republic (CAR) by Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) staff with extensive operational experience in the country. Given logistical and security constraints, data was collected from facilities with established or planned MSF collaboration. Data was collected from 9 hospitals, across 6 health regions and 3 levels of hospital care. Data was collected by MSF personnel from October 29, 2024 through September 5, 2025 using a Google Form version of the adapted surgical assessment tool. This is the raw data collected from this study, prior to validation and contextualization of the data by local physicians, health care workers, and MSF staff.
