ICD-11-based analysis of mortality and morbidity patterns in an urban district hospital: a cross-sectional study in Yaoundé-Cameroon

The objective of this study was to assess the heterogeneity in diagnostic and cause-of-death reporting and explore healthcare workers’ perceptions of electronic health records (EHR) at the Cité Verte District Hospital in Yaoundé- Cameroon. A cross-sectional, institution-based study was conducted from August 29th to October 25th, 2024, involving a retrospective review of all 548 medical records from the medicine, pediatrics, and gynecology-obstetrics units from January 1st to December 31st , 2023. Data on diagnoses and causes of death were compared with the International Classification of Diseases 11th Revision (ICD-11) guidelines to determine the level of heterogeneity in reporting. Additionally, questionnaires were completed by 60 healthcare staff (doctors and nurses) to assess their perceptions of the need need to implement the standardized tool for data management in healthcare settings.
