资源简介:
A simple model of a metal containing deuterons is considered. The example of palladium is treated in detail. In contrast to a previous calculation, it is shown that the effect of screening of Coulomb fields by conduction electrons is sufficient to allow a deuteron pair to fuse at a rate of 10(-18) sec-1, five powers of 10 larger than some experimental results. It is shown that the Oppenheimer-Phillips process enhances the rate by a factor of 1.77. Difficulties with applying the model to titanium are discussed.
