Defining host and pathogen induced changes in antigen presentation during influenza virus infection

Each year, influenza viruses cause 290,000 to 650,000 deaths globally. However, a long-lasting influenza vaccine does not yet exist. My research identified potential candidates for a T cell-inducing influenza vaccine that could provide durable protection. Beyond vaccine targets, I investigated how infection and the antiviral immune response shape the way infected cells are recognised by the immune system. Overall, these findings can inform the design of improved influenza vaccines.
