ERA5 reanalysis and GPM-GMI satellite data of the supercell tunderstorm on 5 September 2015 in the Gulf of Naples (Italy)

This dataset is related to the Master Thesis work "Numerical analysis of shedding vortices past a simplified supercell storm" (2023) and to the submitted paper for Communications Earth&Environment journal "Revealing atmospheric Von Kármán Vortex Street past supercell thunderstorms" (2025).

The dataset contains the ERA5 reanalysis data on 16 pressure levels (ERA5_pressurelevels_20150905.nc) between 1000 and 100 hPa, for the whole day of 5 September 2015. The data cover large portion of the Central and Southern Italy and the surrounding Mediterranean Sea.

The dataset also contains satellite data from a descending orbit of the Global Precipitation Measurement Microwave Imager (GPM-GMI), passing over Italy in the morning of the 5 September 2015.

ERA5 data are in netCDF format, satellite data in HDF5.
