Asia is the region with the largest water withdrawals worldwide. As of 2020, countries in Asia withdrew more than 2.6 trillion cubic meters of water. Asia's agriculture sector accounted for approximately 82 percent of this total. Agriculture makes up the the majority of water withdrawals in Asia, the Americas, Africa, and Oceania. However, the majority of water withdrawals in Europe were for the industrial sector.
