Dit type fibula is lange tijd gezien als puur militair, als opvolger van de draadfibula. Daar zijn ook nog steeds argumenten voor: ook in Nederland ligt het zwaartepunt van de verspreiding langs de limes, of aan militairen gelieerde vindplaatsen als Ockenburgh en Scheveningseweg in Den Haag. Niettemin zijn er ook andere vindplaatsen, zoals in de Betuwe. Datering: A.D. 120 - 200 This type of fibula is associated with a militairy context. In the Netherlands the spread is along the limes.
