资源简介:
"The biomedical industry is experiencing rapid transformation driven by artificial intelligence, connected medical devices, digital health platforms, and data-centric clinical decision systems. While research innovation continues to accelerate, a persistent gap exists between engineering breakthroughs and safe, scalable clinical deployment. My proposal positions IEEE as a key enabler in closing this gap by strengthening its role in translating research innovation into real-world healthcare impact. The core idea is for IEEE to expand beyond traditional research dissemination and become a structured bridge connecting academia, industry, healthcare providers, and regulators. IEEE can achieve this by focusing on three integrated pillars: standards leadership, workforce development, and industry collaboration. First, IEEE can strengthen its leadership in biomedical and digital health standards by developing practical frameworks for medical AI reliability, device interoperability, cybersecurity for connected healthcare systems, and trustworthy data exchange. As healthcare technologies increasingly rely on software, cloud platforms, and intelligent automation, globally harmonized engineering standards are essential to ensure patient safety, system reliability, and regulatory alignment. IEEE’s neutral and globally respected position uniquely enables collaboration among manufacturers, healthcare institutions, and policymakers. Second, IEEE can address the growing interdisciplinary skills gap by offering industry-aligned professional education and certification programs. These programs could focus on areas such as medical AI engineering, digital health system architecture, safety-critical system design, and regulatory-aware engineering practices. By equipping engineers with practical biomedical competencies, IEEE can directly support workforce readiness while increasing the professional value of IEEE membership for industry practitioners. Third, IEEE can create stronger industry–academia–healthcare collaboration platforms through practitioner-focused forums, applied innovation challenges, and industry tracks within conferences. These initiatives would emphasize translating research prototypes into deployable clinical solutions, helping reduce the innovation-to-adoption gap that often delays healthcare advancements. Additionally, IEEE can provide leadership in ethical and responsible technology adoption by developing guidance for trustworthy AI in healthcare, addressing transparency, bias mitigation, explainability, and patient safety considerations. Establishing engineering best practices for ethical biomedical systems will help build public and regulatory trust in emerging healthcare technologies. Through these coordinated efforts, IEEE can evolve from primarily a publisher of research into an active ecosystem enabler that supports the full lifecycle of biomedical innovation — from research and engineering design to clinical implementation and societal impact. This approach strengthens IEEE’s relevance within the biomedical industry while contributing directly to improved healthcare outcomes worldwide."
