While interference from hemolysis, icterus, and lipemia (HIL) is a primary source of pre-analytical error, laboratory validation protocols frequently rely on exogenous spiking models (e.g., commercial bilirubin or intralipid). This study evaluates the validity of these artificial matrices by comparing them against endogenous interference in clinical specimens across a broad range of immunoassays, including hormones, bone turnover markers, and multiplex cytokine profiles.
