Fore wing images of black garden ant (Lasius niger)

The dataset consists of 699 images of the fore wings of the black garden ant (Lasius niger), representing 14 colonies. Both the right and left wings were obtained, but some were excluded because they were damaged. A total of 334 individuals were represented by both the right and left wings. Each wing in the dataset was saved as a separate PNG file. All PNG files were compressed into a "Lasius-niger-wings.zip" file. The wing image file name begins with the three-letter genus code, followed by a hyphen, the three-letter species code, another hyphen, the three-digit colony number, another hyphen, "F" or "M" for female or male, another hyphen, the two-digit individual number, another hyphen, and "L" or "R" for left or right. Individuals were numbered independently within each colony; therefore, the unique individual name must include the colony number.The wing shape was described using 13 landmarks. These landmarks were saved within each wing image file and can be viewed and edited using the IdentiFly software application. The raw coordinates of the landmarks were saved in a CSV file.
