Natural sulphurous mineral water induced proliferation enhancement of native human skin fibroblast in-vitro cultures

The thermal baths of Rivanazzano Salus per Aquam (spa) in Pavia, Italy, is provided with the unique setting of two different water springs in the same site: a salso-bromo-iodic natural mineral water and a sulphurous one. This study aimed at investigating the properties of this sulphurous mineral water on in-vitro human native fibroblast cultures, using the same experimental methods as in the previous research of ours on the Rivanazzano salso-bromo-iodic‑based natural mineral water. Three specific aims were investigated: 1) The effect on native human skin fibroblasts cultured on Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle’s Medium powder (DMEM) reconstituted with filtered sulphurous water vs DMEM reconstituted with distilled water (Control) after 24, 48 and 72 hours was verified (Experiment 1). 2) The effect on native human skin fibroblasts cultured on DMEM reconstituted with distilled water and partially replaced with different percentages of filtered sulphurous water vs DMEM reconstituted with distilled water (Control) after 24, 48 and 72 hours was described (Experiment 2). A comparison of the results between the sulphurous mineral water and the previously investigated salso-bromo-iodic one from the other water spring within the Rivanazzano spa.
