资源简介:
**Overview**
This data package has the purpose to offer data for socio-economic indicators and to cover as much as possible the entire this indicator category with regard to the indicator type and to the geographic level. The major sources of the data are the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau for Labor Statistics. Another used sources of data are the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Department of Housing and the U.S. Department Of Agriculture (Economic Research Service).
**Description**
The U.S. Census Bureau, Small Area Income and Poverty Estimates (SAIPE) program produces single-year estimates of income and poverty for all U.S. states and counties as well as estimates of school-age children in poverty for all school districts. The county and states poverty estimates provided by the Economic Research Service of The United States Department of Agriculture are also based on the data made available by through the SAIPE program. The Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE) program of the same U.S. Census Bureau delivers estimates of health insurance coverage based on the American Community Survey (ACS) data. The incorporation of the ACS into the modeling procedures has allowed for more detailed income group data as well as a higher level of precision in the estimates. The poverty status indicators are based on the Annual Social and Economic Supplement of the Current Population Survey.
The data for the healthcare and social assistance indicators are available through the last Economic Census of the U.S. Census Bureau. All employment-related datasets in this package have as source the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS) program of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Below is provided the list of the indicators categories that can be found in this data package:
• Poverty: population poverty status at country level; poverty estimates at state, county and school district level; poverty thresholds indicators at country level (adjusted for inflation)
• Healthcare and social assistance indicators at country, state and county level
• Homeless population indicators at state level
• Employment/Unemployment: projections by type of occupation, at country level; unemployment rates at state, county and metropolitan area level; unemployment rates change at metropolitan area level.
**Benefits**
- Useful for public health specialists and specialized institutions that plan and assess health services and socio-economic determinants of health. useful for researchers seeking to improve the methods, regulations, health policies and strategy. the raw version can be found on the author's website, but jsl is offering a clean, standardized and easier to use version, alone or in combination with other datasets found in jsl dataset library. the jsl version was enriched by adding for every zip code area the geographic coordinates and the land and water surfaces size. the fields descriptions along with the dataset description are again useful for the user to quick understand the data and the dataset.
