SAL009 - Butlih Salawati - Basic vocabulary (Speaker: Hasam Filis)

This dataset contains elicited basic vocabulary from the Butlih dialect of Salawati with Hasam Filis (born 1978), a native speaker of Butlih Salawati. All words were recorded in isolation, utterance-final, and utterance-medial context; they cover the semantic domains of landscape, plants, animals, humans, verbs, numerals, qualities, and cultural items. The primary purpose of this recording was for use in systematic phonetic investigations on the realisation of the intrinsic fundamental frequency of vowels in Butlih Salawati; a TextGrid file (for use in Praat) is also included. The session was recorded on 4 December 2019, in Kalobo village (Salawati island, Raja Ampat regency, Southwest Papua province, Indonesia). The recording of this session is split across two audio files, SAL009-01 and SAL009-02. There was building work going on nearby during this session, meaning there is a lot of background noise in this recording. This dataset relates to the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship 'Synchronic and diachronic investigations in Raja Ampat-South Halmahera, a little-known subbranch of Austronesian' (PF19\100004); additional fieldwork funds were provided by a Moray Endowment Fund from the University of Edinburgh.
