Changes in quality of life with rapid maxillary expansion in pediatric sleep-disordered breathing.
A prospective clinical study using rapid maxillary expansion therapy. Inclusion criteria for participants were: children with sleep-disordered breathing two or more years after adenotonsillectomy between 5 and 12 years of age (n 24). Subjects were grouped as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) or primary snoring on the basis of polysomnography an obstructive apnea-hypopnea index (OAHI) > 1. Patients underwent nasofibroscopy and complete polysomnography; A Quality of Life Questionnaire (OSA-18), a Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ), the Conners Abbreviated Scale, the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS), Neurocognitive Tests and Computed Tomography.
