Malaria Parasite dataset YOLOv8 with image

This malaria image dataset was collected from the Southeast Sulawesi Provincial Health Laboratory and the Muna Regency Health Office, specifically within the P2PM (Malaria Program) sub-division. The specimens obtained from the Provincial Health Laboratory are standard malaria preparations utilized in the National External Quality Assurance Program (PNPME) as cross-checks for the Southeast Sulawesi region. Conversely, the specimens from the Muna Regency Health Office consist of positive samples from patients with confirmed malaria infections. The selected specimens are peripheral blood smears (thin blood films) that have been processed and stained according to standard Giemsa staining protocols. Each slide was pre-coded and underwent prior examination to ensure the specimens accurately correspond to the Plasmodium species designated for this research dataset The dataset was compiled from a total of 152 specimens, categorized as follows: 57 positive slides of Plasmodium falciparum yielding 1,046 microscopic images; 40 positive slides of Plasmodium vivax resulting in 1,039 images; 9 slides of Plasmodium malariae providing 863 images; and 2 positive slides of Plasmodium ovale producing 415 images. Additionally, 44 specimens identified as negative were included, generating 1,133 microscopic images. Following this collection, the dataset underwent annotation and labeling to ensure the output is compatible with the YOLOv8 processing framework.
