Melanaphis sacchari strain:LSU and endosymbiont Genome sequencing and assembly

The sugarcane aphid (Melanaphis sacchari) is an emerging pest of sorghum in the southern United States. Infestation is associated with stunted growth, yellowing/chlorosis, reductions in photosynthetic capacity, and loss of minerals and nutrients, all of which lead to significantly reduced yields. It also vectors at least three viruses, which can lead to additional losses of plant vigor. This genome will ultimately be used a tool to understand the molecular basis of aphid-sorghum interactions and identify factors linked to virulence.

甘蔗蚜虫（Melanaphis sacchari）是美国南部玉米作物中一种新出现的害虫。其侵染与植株生长迟缓、叶片黄化/失绿、光合作用能力下降以及矿物质和营养素的流失相关，这些因素共同导致产量显著降低。此外，该蚜虫还能传播至少三种病毒，进而引起植物活力进一步的损失。本研究基因组将最终作为探究蚜虫与玉米分子相互作用机理以及识别与致病性相关因素的科研工具。
