资源简介:
Meteosat is an earth observation dedicated geostationary satellite
located at 36000 km above the intersection of the Equator and the
Greenwich Meridian. It has been launched by the European Space Agency
and is operated by Eumetsat. It provides images of the globe at both
visible and infra-red wavelengths. Data are transmitted every half
hour to the Eumetsat operational base station in Germany, where they
are processed before being disseminated to other stations such as the
Meteosat Wefax Ground Station at the University of Nottingham.
Data held at the BADC are daily mirrored from the Meteosat archive at
the University of Nottingham. We mirror images of that portion of the
Meteosat view field encompassing Northern Atlantic, Europe and North
Africa, in all available channels (visible, thermal and water vapour
infra-red bands), plus zooms of Northern Atlantic and Europe in the
visible. This site is intended to supply a long-term archive of the
above images, which are kept at Nottingham for a limited amount of
time only. The oldest picture in our archive was taken on the 11th of
November 1999 in the thermal wavelengths domain. Images are provided
in JPEG format. For more detail, see the Documentation on the data set
home page.
