Vibrio mimicus is an enteric bacterium, causing bacterial gastroenteritis and food poisoning in humans, including abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, sometimes fever, etc.. It is distinct from Vibrio cholerae in many genoetic and phenotypic evidence but like V. cholerae can induce cholera-like diarrhea. Additionally, as a zoonotic pathogen, widely distributed in aquatic environments, V. mimicus also has been reported to infect and cause disease in aquatic animals.This study enhanced our understanding of the pathogenesis in aquatic animals and further characterized the complete genome sequence of V. mimicus Y4, which are essential for the sustainable development of the aquaculture industry.
