Digital Archive from an Archaeological Excavation at Marina Ropeworks, Heywood, Greater Manchester, September 2024

This collection comprises images, spreadsheet data, and site drawings from an archaeological excavation at the former Marina Ropeworks, Brunswick Street, Heywood, Greater Manchester. Archaeological Services WYAS were commissioned to carry out an archaeological strip, map and plan. The work was undertaken prior to the redevelopment of the site in September 2024. Two trenches were excavated revealing structural remains dating from the late 19th to mid-20th centuries. These structures relate to steam power generation, the movement of waste gases and the production and storage of gas on site. One of the two trenches was severely contaminated and, in this case, it was not possible to fully excavate and interpret the structures.
