A system and method for cutting boards 20 into first board pieces 22 and second board pieces 24 that are traveling on a conveyor 2 having first powered rollers 32 to propel the first board pieces 22 in a first direction and second powered rollers 36 to propel the second board pieces 24 in a second direction that is opposite the first direction. A hold back 40 holds the second board pieces 24 in place on the conveyor 2 while the first board pieces 22 are being moved by the first powered rollers 32 in the first direction and the hold back 40 holds the first board pieces 22 in place on the conveyor 2 while the second board pieces 24 are being moved by the second powered rollers 36 in the second direction. The system provides a more efficient system and method for cutting the boards.
